Why is cancer research important?
Cancer research has been an important cause for the past 250 years. There are varying types of cancer that affect many individuals every year, but the most common are: breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and blood cancers. Cancer is the 2nd most common cause of death in the United States (Cleveland Clinic). 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer. In the year 2024, there is predicted to be over 2 million new cancer patients diagnosed (American Cancer Society). While there has been remarkable progress in cancer research, there has yet to be one cure for cancer.
