What are unipotent stem cells?
Unipotent stem cells can only produce one cell type. These stem cells are classified as adult stem cells. Unipotent stem cells are less common but more specialized than pluripotent and multipotent stem cells. Nevertheless, they are just as prominent playing a highly necessary role in the maintenance of body functions by regenerating specialized cells. An example of a unipotent stem cell is a germline stem cell, which produces eggs in the ovaries.
