Totipotent stem cells
The most versatile group is totipotent stem cells, which can differentiate into all cell types. These stem cells are classified as embryonic and fetal stem cells. Totipotent stem cells are highly valued as they have the greatest differentiation potential. They have the ability to become both an entire embryo and extraembryonic structures, which are the tissues that support an embryo during development, such as the placenta or umbilical cord. An example of a totipotent stem cell is a zygote, which results from the union of a sperm and an egg.
